Good morning Resident
Yesterday, your local Neighbourhood Policing Team completed its weekly Street-A-Week initiative on Bowness Road. This initiative provides an opportunity for officers to engage directly with residents, listen to local concerns, and identify issues affecting the street and surrounding area.
During our engagement, a number of residents raised concerns about feeling unsafe when walking along the railway bridges near Barnehurst Railway Station, particularly now as the evenings become darker.
In response to this feedback, we visited the location after dark to gain a better understanding of the concerns being raised. Having assessed the area, I can appreciate why residents feel vulnerable in these conditions. As a result, I will be making enquiries with the relevant local authorities to explore whether improvements to the lighting in this area can be considered and will patrol the area to provide reassurance to those that walk over the bridges.
If you have any safety concerns in public areas, you can report anonymously to StreetSafe at StreetSafe | Police.uk. This includes issues like poorly lit streets, abandoned buildings, or vandalism, as well as instances where you feel unsafe due to someone following or verbally abusing you.
Please note: StreetSafe is not for reporting crimes or emergencies. Use 999 for emergencies or 101 for non-emergencies.
Examples of situations that should be reported to StreetSafe include a poorly lit alleyway that makes you feel unsafe or a park with broken equipment that poses a safety hazard.
